Description
The Isle of Skye is one of the best landscape photography areas the UK has to offer, from the iconic to the hidden, I’ll take you them all. My knowledge of the island is extensive, over the past 9 years my understanding of the weather systems on Skye has become something I know extremely well, studying them for the past few years so I can ensure you will get the best out of each day.
I work to a set of locations, but I don’t work to them specifically, but will play each location day by day dependant on the weather and conditions that come our way. It’s how I’ve always worked to make sure we get the most out of your time on the island.
A max. group of 3 participants (minimum 2 people) ensures that you will get my undivided attention throughout the trip. This is aimed at the beginner to intermediate level, working on the use of filters, composition and anything else you may want to learn. I will get you maximising the potential of you and your camera by shooting in manual mode, which enables you to take full control of the camera, and capturing the scene as it lays before you.
£795 per person.
£100 non refundable deposit to secure your space, with the remaining £695 to be paid up by Oct. 5th 2019 in as little or as large instalments that suits you.
If you have any queries or to book via deposit and instalments rather than pay the full amount please use the contact form at the top of the page.

If you’re reading this then you are probably thinking of going on a workshop to the Isle of Skye, you may be checking this out to see whether Martin Steele is the type of man you would want to travel with. Firstly can I say that until the first day of one of Martin’s ‘Skye’ workshops in November 2015, I had never met him. I travelled to Skye from Whitley Bay with him and two other participants in the workshop and had what I can only describe as one of the best trips in my life. Martins knowledge of the Highlands, Glencoe, Eilan Donan and the Isle of Skye is unsurpassed. All you need is some cold/wet weather gear and your camera kit and he does the rest. He will transport you to the best spots to achieve the shot that you’ve been looking for, if you need some instruction you’ll get it, if you need advice, same thing, if you want to potter on your own and take advantage of the group or Martins experience, they/he are there. You will stay in an idyllic cottage location at the foot of the Cuillins and if you’ve had a long day and don’t want to go out and stand in the cold shooting the milky way, you don’t have to, you can sit in front of the log fire and use the cottage Wi-Fi. If you think it’s too costly, have a look and see what you would pay to travel to Skye and rent a cottage for the week. It would probably cost you more than the workshop ! Anyway I enjoyed it so much, I’m going back with Martin in November this year 🙂

I went to the Isle of Skye with Martin and Nick in November 2015, having not met him before I was not sure what to expect, but I was very pleasantly surprised. His knowledge of the Isle of Skye is unsurpassed, he knows every rock and blade of grass. He is also a master of his camera and equipment and has the uncanny knack of being able to pass that knowledge on in a very relaxed and humorous way. He has a great sense of humour himself. When its Dark, cold and wet waiting for the sunrise he is there to answer any questions you may have about set ups and filters. I now find I have a great friend, and even now he is there to answer any questions I have about photography, via the internet. If you get the chance to go on one of his workshops I would strongly recommend that you go, you would not be disappointed. if fact , I am going back to Skye with him and Nick in March 2016.

My experience of Martin/Nick’s Skye November 2015 workshop was much the same as Jim McMaster’s. I’d never met Martin before; only chatted to him a bit on Facebook for a while, but always loved his work.
The weather on Skye is changeable at the best of times, in fact my girlfriend’s dad says he’s been there 4 times but never actually seen Skye.
We had one day that it didn’t stop raining sideways at about 70mph in your face. That was the day we went to Neist point, and I didn’t get my camera out that day, but it was still a fantastic day and no matter what the weather threw at us, it couldn’t dampen the spirits, such was the great company we had. With Nick and Martin still able to come up with suggestions of places to try.
Martin’s experience of Skye is worth so much more than the price requested for this course.
I’m not able to go back with Jim in November, but I am going back again in March 🙂 And I can’t wait!
If you’re even remotely considering a course/trip to Skye, go with Martin. Anything else is probably a lot more expensive and won’t be half as good, I reckon.

10/03/2016. Just returned from another Isle of Skye Workshop with Martin and Nick. As ever their knowledge of their subject is second to none and their easy almost lay back method of instruction fills clients with confidence. Martins geographical of Skye is phenomenal, there is nothing or nowhere that has the potential for a photo that Martin does not know. Martin and Nick have a great understanding of photography and of how to set up your camera for the perfect shot. Last year I was very pleased with the photographs I took. This year I can’t believe that the pictures I have down loaded from my camera were taken by me. When you consider that your getting transported to Skye, the accommodation and all your food while in the cottage plus the after shooting instruction in post photo manipulation. I would have no hesitation in recommending anyone to take up the offer of a place on a future workshop. But book you place before I get it. Thanks again Martin and Nick for everything you have done to enhance my knowledge and skill levels. Can’t wait for the next one.

I have just returned from an epic adventure hosted by Martin, and of course Nick. Having travelled the world extensively in my life time, I can only say, that Skye is one of the best places I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Martin’s knowledge of Skye and Glencoe is unsurpassable. He knows it like the back of his hand, and has no qualms about sharing it. Whatever your level of photography is, Martin will guide you, advise you, and help you any which way but loose! The accommodation of a delightful cottage with wifi and a gorgeous log fire to come back to fills you with warmth just thinking about it… It is set at the foot of the Cuillins, a stunning backdrop of mountains. Whatever your needs, Martin will accommodate quite willingly and freely. I would like to thank Martin and Nick for a card full of fantastic imagery, wonderful memories, for the great knowledge you both have imparted, and for making that knowledge understandable, with their easy ethos…. If you are contemplating going on this workshop, hurry and book before the places are filled…. A monumental and epic time indeed in which I was never forget…
